We headed west in the first weekend of August for Severn Valley Brick Weekend, a LEGO fan event in the West Midlands at the exciting Severn Valley Railway attraction.
Hosted by the Severn Valley Railway and LUKR, the UK LEGO train club, Severn Valley Brick Weekend presented LEGO models built by amateur builders from across the country, plus a number of hands-on activities with LEGO bricks too. LEGO model displays and activities were located in the Highley Engine House visitor centre, which is roughly midway between the railway’s Kidderminster and Bridgnorth terminus stations. It’s a really superb line, cutting through some beautiful countryside in the West Midlands, passing a safari, over rivers, and through beautiful Georgian villages and towns.

Ben Roger’s automated LEGO turntable and Railway Children scene
Ben is a regular exhibitor at LEGO events around the UK, and his builds tend to come with a lovely degree of automation and animation, whether it’s a zombie raising it’s head from a graveyard when visitors pass by, or trains controlling themselves. His latest model is a beautiful engine shed with a working LEGO turntable – and, in Ben’s true style, the trains are automated, driving on to the turntable, which rotates the engines and allows them to drive off in and out of the engine shed. It was truly mesmerising to watch!
A nod to the Railway Children was also popular, with three LEGO minifigures carefully watching the movements of the trains.
Seacoastia LEGO town by Robin Langford
Robin’s lovely LEGO town is encircled by a railway (of course!), and the mix of essentially English town buildings and scenery coupled with his sense of humour made his Seacoastia display well worth a prolonged look.
The town, it turns out, had been invaded by LEGO pirates, and visitors were invited to count all of the pirates to ensure their capture and the town’s return to normality.
Paul Clark’s LEGO Roman forum model
First debuted at Bricktastic 2024, Paul’s lovely Roman forum LEGO model dives back in history to recreate a typical Roman marketplace. Featuring temples, courts, and other public buildings and decoration, Paul’s LEGO forum included much historic research (and a little bit of artistic license, of course)!
