The magnificent refectory of Ushaw House, 4 miles outside the city Durham in the north east of England, was home to a new LEGO fan event for 2024 earlier this month. Durham Brick Show, hosted by Brick Alley LEGO User Group, saw two days of LEGO model displays and activities held at this former seminary.
Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of September saw the first time this event was run, with a mix of LEGO city scenes, LEGO trains, architectural models, mosaics and art built from LEGO bricks all under one roof. This event had around 50 exhibitors, with the club’s larger flagship event Shildon Brick Show running further south in the county in November.
Our favourite models at Durham Brick Show 2024
Here are a selection of our favourite models from Durham Brick Show 2024, displayed alongside activities run by Brick Alley volunteers including yours truly, and play pits full of LEGO and DUPLO bricks for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
Fiona’s medieval village scenes
Fiona has featured before on our blog posts, and she deserves another feature for her wonderfully detailed LEGO medieval village scenes on display at Durham Brick Show this year.
Featuring several smaller vignettes, these medieval village scenes were really well composed, with plenty of details to spot the longer you looked. We really love the stone texturing of the bottom of the house in the photograph above – imagine the hundreds of LEGO parts that went in to creating that!
LEGO Classic Space pit
Cameron’s small LEGO classic space display featured many of his own spaceships and models based on the “classic space” era of LEGO sets which are really popular with many adult LEGO fans. This particular detail caught our eye – a crater of something green and presumably acidic hiding a beast below it. The visitors seem to love the gory attention to detail; we’re not sure the yellow classic spaceman feels the same.
