Discovery Brick Show 2024 LEGO fan event in Newcastle upon Tyne - LEGO micro cities by Dom Anderson

We headed north again for Discovery Brick Show in Newcastle upon Tyne, hosted in Discovery Museum by Brick Alley LEGO User Group.

Our home for two days was under the magnificent roof of the Great Hall, an old Co-operative Society meeting hall, and possibly the second most impressive LEGO show venue in the UK after Edinbrick’s McEwan Hall! As well as models from amateur builders across the Scotland and Northern England, Discovery Brick Show hosted activities for visitors too and a small marketplace area for those vital LEGO purchases.

Our pick of LEGO models from Discovery Brick Show 2024

It was difficult to narrow down a selection for this blog from the many models on display this year, but here’s our hand-picked choice of LEGO models on display this year at Discovery Brick Show.

Microscale LEGO cities by Dom Anderson

Dom’s miniature LEGO models of world cities really capture the look and feel of each city, from Tokyo to New York, London and Paris. Being small models, they rely on some really clever part usage to create the shapes and textures needed to replicate a city – what a great use of LEGO bricks!

Art deco hotel by Ian Kimpton

This art deco style hotel built from LEGO bricks by Ian Kimpton really stood out, with its pastel colour scheme and imposing height making it visible across the exhibition hall.

Fish bowl by Fiona Wilmot

This blend of real life and LEGO bricks to create a fish bowl by Fiona Wilmot is really inspired, and goes to show you don’t need huge quantities of LEGO parts to be able to create something beautiful and recognisable!

Hopefully we will return to Newcastle, and to Discovery Brick Show in 2025, but Brick Alley have two more events this year in North East England, including Durham Brick Show in September and their flagship Shildon Brick Show at Locomotion Museum in November.
