Wednesday, 11th June 2025 is the first annual International Day of Play!
LEGO have their International LEGO Day on 28th January each year, but the whole world of play is celebrated on 11th June each year.
What is International Day of Play?
The International Day of Play is recognised by the United Nations, and will be held on 11th June every year. The event places importance on the role of play in our development as humans, particularly in early childhood. As the IDoP website says:
Play is a fundamental right; it builds resilience, instils confidence and helps children develop.
The event is initiated by the LEGO Group and the LEGO Foundation (LEGO’s charitable arm), who say the importance of play is globally recognised – “97% of us believe play is important, yet one in three of us do not have time to play”. International Day of Play asks decision makers in organisations 5 critical actions:
- Invest in the wellbeing of children by protecting their right to play
- Provide children more opportunities to play, including in school
- Protect the right to play with safe and accessible places
- Respect the rights of children to be in heard in decisions impacting their right to play
- Support people in developing social skills through play
