BURP – Big Ugly Rock Piece – is a large prefabricated LEGO element frequently utilized in constructing rock formations and landscapes.
Many MOC builders prefer to brick-build their rockwork, as BURPs (and their smaller counterparts, LURPs – Little Ugly Rock Pieces), as using BURPs can create a very regular pattern in rockwork which does not look natural.
Overview of BURPs
- BURPs are single-panel pieces that measure approximately 4 studs wide, 10 studs long, and 6 bricks high. They were first introduced in 1992 and are designed to resemble rock faces, making them useful for creating natural landscapes in LEGO builds
- These pieces are commonly employed in sets that require quick assembly of rocky terrains, such as castles or mountainous environments. Their size allows builders to add height and texture without needing to construct every detail from smaller bricks.
- The perception of BURPs varies widely within the LEGO community. Some builders appreciate their practicality for quickly achieving height and volume in builds, while others criticize them for lacking the aesthetic appeal of custom-built rocks
- Other pre-fabricated pieces like LURP (Little Ugly Rock Piece) and MURP (Medium Ugly Rock Piece) are also available, providing additional options for builders looking to create varied rock formations
