We returned to Scotland, and to Edinburgh, at the weekend for Edinbrick, a LEGO fan event in aid of charity.
Organised by the Brick M8 group, Edinbrick celebrated its tenth year of existence this year, now in its second year at the Meadowbank Sports Centre to the east of Edinburgh city centre. With over 5000 visitors across the two days, Edinbrick is the largest LEGO fan event in Edinburgh, and Scotland!

New Edinbara collaborative
This is a stunning New Edinbara collaborative display by various builders attending the show.
Each builder creates one or more cubes that are stacked together to create the cyberpunk city of New Edinbara. The size and structure of cubes is set based on the New Hashima standard but the content is entirely down to builders. New Edinbara features a fire station, hospital, appartments, glasshouse, food outlets, police station (with donut shop next door, of course) and much more. With so much going on, the challenge is to keep the whole display coherent whilst giving each module its own character. And the builders here pulled it off magnificently with careful theming of colours and some fabulous greebling!
Our House by @abrickadabra
This large LEGO house model featured the builders’ (@abrickadabra_lego) own house, with some really lovely detailing throughout.
Roofs and walls could be hinged and removed to better views, and the whole model was beautifully thought out, from the verdant garden to the miniature version of the model itself sitting in the “LEGO room”!
A favourite detail of ours was the LEGO Henry vacuum cleaner hidden in a cupboard.

This enormous castle scene towered above the room at Edinbrick this year, and was brimming with details both on the inside and outside. This feasting hall was magnificent:
Every building had an interior, with plenty of scenes to bring it to live – just like this inn in the village surrounding the castle:

Blacktron Monorail by William Conway
What’s better than a LEGO monorail? A Blacktron monorail, of course! LEGO famously only released three complete monorail sets (between 1987-1994). There were two space-themed sets (6990 Futuron and 6991 Unitron) and one LEGO Town (6399 Airport Shuttle).
So, monorails using original LEGO are rare and monorails reimagined into another space theme are even more special! And the monorail is not the only reimagined model in this display which combines original Blacktron and Ice Planet sets with contemporary reboots and rebuilds of some classic space sets into Blacktron and Ice Planet colours. Monorail trains in the original LEGO sets usually had three cars but the builder here has four-car sets that – via some clever parts usage – can also cope with sloping tracks sections.
Water feature
This water feature with LEGO floral display really caught our ears at Edinbrick, with the trickling water flower through dense foliage.
We’re awaiting the builder’s name for this model.
