They seem to be springing up everywhere in the UK – which is no surprise given the popularity LEGO and LEGO fan events are experiencing at present! LEGO Cafes, as they style themselves, offer visitors not just cafe, cake and teas, but the chance to build LEGO sets without the need to buy the sets yourself.
How LEGO cafes work
Most LEGO cafes work on a session based system, providing a fixed time for you to come and build a LEGO set from a catalogue of past sets. Not sure how fast you can build? Somewhere between 100 and 400 parts an hour is a good target, depending on age, ability and the complexity of the model you’re building. Some cafes provide structured activities and workshops with LEGO bricks alongside set building.
Some LEGO cafes require pre-booking, but this isn’t always the case – it’s best to check ahead with the venue you are planning to visit. These cafes are not affiliated with LEGO themselves – they are independent businesses who have chosen to them themselves with LEGO building activities alongside a cafe’s usual menu.

Here is Bricks McGee’s list of LEGO cafes in the UK, arranged alphabetically by name and categorised by their country – England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It does seem that these only exist in England at present – whilst pop-up LEGO cafe experiences have existed in Edinburgh and Dublin, they were temporary events.
